WolfBrown was engaged by ArtServe Michigan to design and execute a state-wide planning process for the organization, which had been formed through a recent merger. The challenge was to pursue a process that a diverse and geographically dispersed constituency would find constructive, even if it resulted in significant change. In response, WolfBrown took the client through a series of stages over the course of nine months so that the lessons learned at each stage could be applied to the next. Along the way, WolfBrown consultants conducted key interviews, incorporated what was learned from an online survey of a cross-section of the cultural community, presented and corroborated the survey’s findings, conducted state-wide focus groups on the best options for ArtServe Michigan, and led a final board retreat that resulted in a strategic plan.
